This week Produmax welcomes ten work experience students to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in with engineering!

We’ve changed things up this year by inviting multiple students to take part in a new programme simultaneously, which is created to showcase engineering in all its glory by diving headfirst into all the different departments of the business.

When the students arrive on site, they receive a short induction before heading off for a full factory tour.  They will then follow the journey of several machined parts through the factory, from picking the materials, setting up the machining processes, de-burring, and quality checking before despatch – in this case a skew link made up of 6 machined parts and components that is part of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner wing mechanism.

Each student will also spend time on a one-to-one basis with teams in all the key areas including turning, milling, lang, assembly, quality, and engineering.   They’ll see our state-of-the-art technology in action and work with our experts to get a real feel of what we do and how we do it.

Working together in teams they’ll be challenged with designing a part for 3D print, create a model and produce it in house.  The part will be measured using CMM instruments to check it meets rigorous quality standards before being signed off. 

At the end of the week, they are challenged with putting together a presentation about Produmax and our customers through interviewing staff and gathering information from their week with us.  This is presented to everyone they have worked with during the week.
